Attributes were added to the spatial data file in order to provide the user with not only the the statutory and regulatory references for this law, but also the name and contact information of the state agency with regulatory jurisdiction. The ability to visualize regulations, laws, or management structures can help policy makers understand use conflicts, point out inconsistencies in national or state policy, and educate the public about ocean issues. In addition, georegulations allow the user to view the spatial extent of these laws concurrently with the natural resources they seek to protect. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: This data layer was created from multiple sources. The Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) was used to established the seward boundary. The landward, northern, and southern boundaries conform to the study area boundary established for the georegulatory data layers. These data were joined and edited in ESRI's ARCEDIT to create the final polygon. LOGICAL CONSISTENCY REPORT: The data are believed to be logically consistent, although not tested. COMPLETENESS REPORT: The segment of the EEZ that was selected for display within this data layer spans a sufficient distance to address issues pertinent to the Massachusetts coast. HORIZONTAL POSITIONAL ACCURACY REPORT: The accuracy of the data set is based on source data that is assumed to meet National Map accuracy standards. PROCESS DESCRIPTION: The EEZ boundary was projected to State Plane coordinates and clipped to the project boundary. This line segment was then appended to the georegulatory study area (a polygon that was generated using coordinates that encompass the region of applicability for all relevant laws and boundary layers). As this product is meant to assist coastal initiatives, however, the western boundary does not extend to the landward boundary of Massachusetts.
